She wrote My First Chess Book after being taught by her son, Joe Birks, who became the British Under 9 Chess Champion in 2017.

Christine Pym an illustrator, mainly of picture books based in Longnor, Staffordshire. She graduated in 2006 from the North East Wales School of Art and Design after studying Illustration for Childrens Publishing and has been penciling and painting professionally ever since.
